What a great ride and even the weather agreed! What started out as an overcast, cloudy morning evolved into a gorgeous afternoon in the mid 70’s. Don Shore picked a very enjoyable route and the group enjoyed the nice pace and scenery. We had 11 bikes and 18 people with three couples joining us from Chapter B2. At the end of the day I recorded about 210 miles door-to-door. After organizing at the Sunmist Restaurant, we departed on time at 8:30am and headed north. Arriving in East Troy about 3 hours later we found a small building used as the depot where we bought tickets to board the train. The electric train takes you about 20 minutes down the tracks to a market called the Elegant Farmer where there is a fantastic array of plants and food items from which to choose. There were delicious looking sandwiches, ice cream and bakery. One of their more famous items is the apple pie baked in a bag! Apparently Bobby Flay (of Cooking Channel fame) challenged the Elegant Farmer and lost to this outstanding dish. Sampling the pie we now know why! We didn’t stay too long and took the train back to the depot. Our friends from B2 had to leave for home and the rest of us started home. About 45 minutes later we arrived at our lunch destination for a perfect ending to a beautiful day! Thanks everyone for riding with us and looking forward to our next ride!
