It’s finally here! Our Chapter Z2 Sturgeon Bay ride is coming up this weekend, June 24-26. A lot of hard work by the entire team to plan and we are happy that we have about 15 bikes and 26 people ready to ride! Anyone who signed up should have received an email yesterday with details concerning the ride. If you didn’t, please contact me, Doug Koglin, or Don Shore. Let the good times roll!
Welcome to Chapter Z2’s long-awaited Sturgeon Bay Ride! Please READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING for important information concerning the upcoming ride. We have about 15 bikes and 26 people, so things are a bit more structured to make sure we have an enjoyable and safe ride. We will be breaking up in to two groups with bike assignments below. If you wish to trade your bike assignment, please do so individually. We plan to stick with this ride order all weekend, though we may consolidate if traffic allows. Please note the fees below for the ferry ride and state park on Saturday.
Also, please have, or send me, emergency contact info (name, phone number, any special needs/instructions) that we can have just in case.
Friday, June 24
- Kick stands up at 8am from the Sunmist Resturant.
501 E. Lake St.
- Meet earlier for breakfast if you wish. Please arrive gassed up and ready to go.
- First day ride is about 235 miles and with rest stops, lunch, etc. we expect about an 8-10 hr. ride.
- The first rest stop planned is about 90 miles from our departure.
- Bring water and/or snacks to munch on while riding. Stay hydrated.
- Weather is expected to be sunny with a high of 84 in Chicago, and a high of 78 in Sturgeon Bay. Accuweather shows a possible thunderstorm on Saturday in the area, so bring your rain gear.
We are NOT planning a group dinner on Friday night. The large group and long day will give everyone a chance to “do their own thing” on Friday night. There is a Supper Club (a little pricier) within walking distance of the hotel. A little further ride is a recommended local restaurant. Links are included:
- The Nightingale Supper Club – http://www.nightingalesupperclub.com
- WandaJean’s Restaurant – http://www.wandajeansrestaurant.com/menu.html – not walking distance
We generally get together in the lobby or around the pool after dinner to chat and have some snacks and beverages for those that still have the energy! J
Our hotel is:
Best Western Maritime Inn
1001 N. 14th Ave.
Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235
Saturday, June 25
Kick stands up TBD on Friday evening. If you don’t know please ask, since we don’t want to miss anyone. See Don Shore, Doug Koglin or myself. Planned ride north through Door County, taking a ferry ride to Washington Island (with the bike). About 140 miles.
There is a charge for the ferry of $15 for the motorcycle round trip. Each adult is $13.50 round trip. We are also planning to visit a state park and they charge $11 per vehicle for a day pass.
There are no tie-downs on the ferry.
Currently no planned dinner for Saturday night. The large group size and unexpected travel time makes it a little difficult. Please feel free to organize your own groups and times.
Sunday, June 26
Kick stands up – TBD. Same rules as before. Since riders tend to have some different routes or break off early depending on where you live, please let the ride leader know your intentions. We may reorganize some ride formations based on that information.
More Important Stuff
We ride staggered formation and try to observe the 1 and 2 second rules, especially in the higher traffic areas. CB Channel 2.
RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE! The idea is to have fun while practicing safe riding techniques. If we ride too fast, let us know so we can adjust or move your bike to the rear of one of the groups. If we ride too slow, we can either move you further up in the group or even give you the information on where to meet us further up the road. This is your vacation and ride too! So enjoy it.
Here are the Bike Assignments, so you can line up at Sunmist:
|1 – Ride/Group Leader||Don/Chris Shore|
|8-Group Sweep||Doug Koglin|
|1 – Group Leader||Robert/Char Ullrich|
|7- Group Sweep||Al/Joan Nurczyk|
Sorry for the long email, but that should wrap it up. See you all Friday morning. My cell number is 630-667-8372 in case anything should occur that you need to call.
