Our chapter enjoyed a great ride to the Air Classics Museum in Sugar Grove this past Sunday after our regular monthly meeting and breakfast. Winding our way south through Lisle and Naperville, we headed west on Wolf’s Crossing and finally passed through Oswego. Continuing west on Galena and then Jericho, we finally moved north to connect with US Rt. 30 and eventually our destination. We were entertained by one of our guides, Chester, 90 yrs. old and a veteran pilot who introduced us to the flight line and the vintage planes that were displayed. Planes from WWII, Korea and the Gulf War were on display for us to look at and hear descriptions from our guides on how they were used in combat and to support the troops. We were able to view the cockpits and Joe and Teo even found themselves in the pilot’s seats. The afternoon was getting pretty warm (hot!) and so we finished by touring two other buildings filled with memorabilia and a display of local and Illinois pilots that served.
Heading across the street we had a great lunch at the Round Up! Excellent steak sandwiches, barbecue and more. Did I mention how good the air conditioning felt! The group departed after a leisurely lunch and more fun times. Thanks to all who could make it on a holiday weekend and we missed all of you who were enjoying other activities.
We had 9 bikes and 11 people plus Nick and Barb met us there in their four-wheeler. Next up, our Adventure Ride to Hillsboro, WI. leaving Saturday, Sept. 12.
